On September 19, an incident reportedly took place in Jamui, Bihar, involving a boy and a girl who were travelling on a scooter. It was around 7–8 PM when some local people stopped them and asked where they were going and what they were doing there.
Asking questions is not necessarily wrong. If it was already evening, people could have asked why the two students had not yet returned home or whether they needed any help. But there is no justification for misbehaving with them, touching them inappropriately, or humiliating them.
Who gave anyone the right to behave in such a manner with a girl? If the same thing happened to someone’s own sister or daughter, would they consider it acceptable? The two could also have been brother and sister. Today, a boy and a girl travelling together does not automatically mean that they are in a relationship.
The two students are reportedly studying in Class 10. Whatever happened to them could have a psychological impact on them, especially at such a young age. Local people and others should understand that making videos for social media and trying to make them viral can have serious consequences for the people involved.
According to reports, the video later went viral on social media. Police reportedly went to arrest a man identified as Nandan Yadav in connection with the alleged misbehavior. During the incident, an encounter reportedly took place, and he sustained a gunshot injury to his leg. He was taken to a hospital and is currently in police custody.
In today’s world, a boy and a girl can go anywhere together for many reasons. They could be friends, relatives, classmates, or siblings. Whether it is daytime, evening, or night, nobody has the right to harass or humiliate them.
If there is a genuine concern about someone’s safety, it is reasonable to ask whether they need help or where they are going. But inappropriate touching, harassment, or misbehavior is completely wrong.
